Board-certified in gastroenterology and hepatology, Dr. Patel, believes that patient care is an honor and a privilege. A native of Memphis, Tennessee (“my parents were Elvis fans”), Dr. Patel earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Rhodes College in Memphis. He then received his medical degree from East Tennessee State University James H. Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, Tennessee. From there, he completed his internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina (M.U.S.C.) in Charleston.
Dr. Patel is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD).
As a general gastroenterologist, Dr. Patel has a keen interest in colorectal cancer, optimal polyp detection techniques, reflux, IBS, etc. Previously, he worked in private practice in Rockwall, Texas, and Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He established a hospital-based GI practice in Lebanon, Tennessee in 2010 and therefore has been able to practice in many different settings while delivering care to his patients. More recently, he worked at Adena Regional Medical Center (Ohio), Gastroenterology East, PA and UNC Wayne Memorial Hospital before joining AZ Gastro Care.
